Respite
Caring for a loved one—whether they’re an older person or someone living with a disability—is one of the most valuable things you can do. It can also be a tiring, stressful and overwhelming task. Having regular breaks is important, so you can take care of yourself and recharge.
Respite is when someone else takes care of the person you support for a period of time, so you can have some time out from your caring role. It can be for a couple of hours a week, overnight, or spending time away for a whole week. Respite is a great opportunity to rest or have time for other responsibilities, knowing the person you care for is in good hands. It also makes you a better carer, as you can look after your own needs before continuing to provide ongoing care.
